The Kicker brand name continues to product quality products, one model that I personally felt was worthy of a review is the K60.20 6" car speakers. One thing I noticed is that though it is referred to as a 6" speaker set is a suitable fit for any 6-1/2" openings. This 6" Component System is a sleek looking set that is capable of handling the high's and low's of any type of music you might enjoy.

This component system can handle 75 watts RMS continuous power handling, and its sensitivity rating is an adequate 88 dB. It can handle an impressive frequency range from 38 - 21000 Hz. The cone woofer consists of molded polypropylene which enables the mid range woofer to respond efficiently and effectively to the beat of your music.

Another great plus about the Kicker KS60.2 speakers is the surround material. The edges are made out of Santoprene, a thermoplastic compound that is processed in much the same way as any type of plastic. The difference is that it possesses the same levels of flexibility and durability that are commonly found with natural rubber compounds. Because of the longer life of Santoprene rubber surround material in both extreme hot and cold environments, the material is often preferred over the use of rubber. Further, the magnets are made out of neodymium which is the strongest existing material on the market. The great thing about this package is you get the speakers, tweeters, and mid bass drivers, everything you need for a great sounding speaker setup.

The thing that impresses me most about this speaker is that it can handle both the low bass sounds and the high frequency riffs. It can handle a continuous power amount of 100 watts and it has a superb sensitivity rating of 92 dB. The cone woofer consists of molded polypropylene which enables the subwoofer to respond efficiently and effectively to the beat of your music. The edges are made out of Santoprene, a thermoplastic compound that is processed in much the same way as any type of plastic. The difference is that it possesses the same levels of flexibility and durability that are commonly found with natural rubber compounds. Because of the longer life of santoprene in both extreme hot and cold environMents, the material is often preferred over the use of rubber.

Another noteworthy feature of the Kicker KS6930 is the frequency range, which ranges from 30-2100 Hz. This enables the speaker to be versatile enough to handle any type of music, from Daft Punk to Jay Z to Beethoven. Further, the magnets are made out of neodymium which is the strongest existing material. Clearly, this speaker one of the best value buys on the market considering its all around capability.

Kicker S12L7, S8L7, S15L7, S10L7 Subwoofer Review 2006-2008 Model-High Performance, Quality, Power

Kicker S12L7, S8L7, S15L7, S10L7 Subwoofer Review 2006-2008 Model-High Performance, Quality, Power

Kicker's ingenuity is the reason why they're one of the top contenders for the best car audio components. The result of that ingenuity is the production of Kicker's Solo-Baric L7 Series subwoofers. We will review in this article particularly the S12L74; a 12 "dual 4 ohm L7 subwoofer.

Kicker S12L7, S8L7, S15L7, S10L7 Subwoofer Review 2006-2008 Model-High Performance, Quality, Power

Pros

Power handling, that is all I have to say. But really, this mighty subwoofer could handle monstrous 1500 watts max with 750 watts RMS. Unlike other cheaper companies, when Kicker say they feature a 750 watts RMS, they really do mean 750 watts RMS. This means you can put out consistently loud (if supplied with proper power) bass on any given day and is capable of peaking at 1500 watts.

The cone is surprisingly not made of any unusualmaterial but uses injection molded polypropylene. However, it is a one piece construction in a patented design Kicker dubbed as "SoloKon". And of course with Solo-Baric construction, it is a square design, allowing for more surface area and more bass production. To top it all off, the surround is Santoprene rubber that is stitched to the cone, providing a highly durable construction that will sure to prevent tearing during high power usage.

Cons

The subwoofer is pricey but you get what you pay for and this subwoofer will definitely impress you with its quality and SPL. With all these great punching features, the subwoofer does have one more drawback other than the price, and that is its break-in period.

The design requires theconsumer to use the subwoofer at low levels for at least 20 hours or about two weeks. This will allow for the suspension structure to move around a bit before it is pushed to its optimum capability. It's a lot like how stiff baseball gloves are when you buy them brand new from the store, and they require a bit of breaking in and wear before it could be usable at all on the field. Unfortunately users will run a huge risk of blowing out the Speakers if they do not properly follow Kicker's recomMendation.

Newer Model Changes Notes

The 2008 and newer models will feature a modified SoloKon design with full back bracing to allow more efficient Air moveMent, giving the new L7 subs the ability to punch much more powerful bass. Unlike the 2006 model, thenew 2008 models have periMeter venting. It looks a lot like a hand holding a square bowl; where as the older models have virtually no openings for venting. As a result, there is no need for extra mounting space for venting-giving you the same powerful subwoofer with a much shallower mounting depth. The cone design has changed a bit as well, giving the 2008 models a fresh but stylish new look; and don't worry about handling power because power ratings are rated at the same as the older models. Binding posts have also been repositioned to the corners of the subs. This will allow for a more convenient installation for multiple-subwoofer setups.

Note: This review covers S8L72, S8L74, S10L72, S10L74, S12L72, S12L74, S15L74, S15L72. 2 or 4 at the end of every model refersdual 2 ohms or to dual 4 ohms. Features are generally the same except for power handling and SPL.

Overall

The Kicker is a magnificent 08S12L74 subwoofer and will perform admirably at incredible power handling levels. The subwoofer features a lot of high performance parts and construction, and the subwoofer will do just what you expect it to do. If you have the extra cash and if you're willing to go through the break-in process, you may be rewarded by this great Kicker subwoofer.

Are Kicker Subwoofers the Best Around?

Are Kicker Subwoofers the Best Around?

Of course opinions as to what is better than what or the best in anything are always a matter of preference. Disclaimer aside however, one has to admire a company that has risen to overtake many of its rivals purely on consumer enthusiasm and word of mouth promotion, and there is no doubt that Kicker Speakers have built a formidable presence in the car audio marketplace.

Not only has this company been able to cleverly distinguish themselves with the unique square design of some of their subwoofers, but have also excelled in the high quality of the products. Kicker subwoofers are considered one of the top choices in car audio design for their highly-efficient design and for the ability to produce thunderous heart-pounding bass. It's hard to find another car audio brand out there that has made such a name for themselves solely on producing brute, monster quality bass for the masses.

Kicker subwoofer technology is definitely designed with the serious autosound competitor in mind and their subwoofers go where only few others dare. Case in point, Kicker recently redesigned their Solo-Baric L7 Subwoofer model, which was already considered one of the top decibel pushers in the sub market. The Solo-Baric L7 model is still based on the one-piece, injection-molded cone technology Kicker proudly named SoloKon, which allows for more Air push to produce a lauder bass. ImproveMents also made to the motor, dual high-temp voice coils and other components give this subwoofer more ability to handle enormous power. For those that have experienced it, there is no doubt that the Solo-baric L7 is considered the most complete and advanced subwoofer Kicker ever developed and comes available in 8, 10, 12 and 15-inch models.

There is no question that there are many other car audio companies out there that are high on the recognition list and no credit should be taken away; however, what makes kicker stand out in the crowd, is their willingness to progressively outdo themselves and consistently push the limit of raw performance with each new design.
